On Thursday night, Snoop shared a serious selfie on Instagram and asked for followers and fans to respect his privacy.
His strange behavior initially sparked worry among fans who were shocked he was cutting the habit.
But others have tried to encourage him through the change, and wish nothing but the best for his health.
One fan commented: “1 hour at a time big bro,” as others shared their stories of sobriety.
Another said they were praying for Snoop and hoped his shocking move didn’t come because of serious health issues.
The public decision comes not long after Snoop made comments about reducing his smoking and cannabis usage for his children and grandchildren, per Daily Mail.
“Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,” the rap icon said while speaking to the publication.
“The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with because I want to see my grandkids grow old.”
Snoop continued: “The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?”
A father of four, Snoop has had an outpouring of support from his family since he made the announcement.
His son Cordell Broadus shared Snoop’s statement on Instagram and said he was giving up smoking as well. And his wife of over 25 years Shante Broadus also shared the post on her story.
The rapper joins a list of celebrities who strongly advocated for marijuana only to quit the stuff later.
In 2022, Lady Gaga proudly admitted she had stopped smoking after heavily consuming weed throughout the creation of her record Chromatica.
“It was the most bizarre, beautiful thing that could have happened. This music actually healed me,” she said in an interview with Apple Music.
Miley Cyrus was also a happy hippy who used weed for its therapeutic benefits until she got vocal cord surgery.
Now, she enjoys living life clearly so she can perform well and speak about her music fluently.
This isn’t the first time Snoop has announced he’s stepping away from marijuana use.
In 2002, he infamously announced he would be quitting cannabis for good before quickly falling off the wagon.
By 2014, he claimed to have been smoking around 80 cannabis blunts per day but said he would never encourage his children to indulge in the habit.
