Angelina Jolie was approached for a role in the sequel to Pierce Brosnan’s hit movie, The Thomas Crown Affair. The Die Another Day actor desired a seasoned actress to play the heroine, aiming for a more mature dynamic between the duo in the potential sequel. Previously, a much younger Rene Russo was cast in the first movie in 1999.

Although the Salt actress fit Brosnan’s description as a ‘mature’ actress, the filmmakers had doubts about whether Jolie could convincingly portray the physique of the character. Interestingly, Charlize Theron was also considered for the role amid rumors of a feud with the Eternals actress.
The Filmmakers Wanted Angelina Jolie To Put On Some Weight

Angelina Jolie, who had a generally slim physique, was asked to bulk up for her role in the movie. According to reports, the filmmakers wanted her to put on some weight to match the physical features of Pierce Brosnan’s heroine. The reports said:
“Ideally they want Angelina to put on two stone for the role. It is going to be very physically demanding, which is why they want her to carry the extra weight. They don’t want a reprise of what happened with Wanted, where she was fainting and they had to take her costumes in.”
Earlier, during the filming of Wanted, Jolie was physically exhausted from performing stunts for some action sequences and often fainted. In yet another incident, while shooting A Mighty Heart in India, the Maleficient actress could not handle the burden of certain emotional scenes and reportedly passed out on set. The filmmakers wanted to avoid a similar situation happening again.
While the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actress could have considered the demands, further discussions didn’t materialize because the film went into development hell.
Angelina Jolie’s Physique For Wanted Was Also Criticized

Angelina Jolie was the perfect assassin girl in Timur Bekmambetov’s Wanted. The same physique, which was questioned by The Thomas Crown Affai moviemakers, came across as impressive and intimidating.
However, there were some concerns and criticisms for her ‘ultra-slender fit’ female action hero. Concerns arose about the potential influence on young girls and teens, with speculations that the Original Sin actress’s thin frame could impose unattainable beauty standards on them.
Though Angelina Jolie was approached for the role, Brosnan felt that Charlize Theron would make a much better pairing opposite him. The Black Adam actor admired Theron for her work and wanted to collaborate with the actress. Brosnan said that the Monster actress possessed the ‘inner strength’ and ‘feminity’ required for the role.
