Jaden Smith’s debut role was with Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness – the movie that cemented his father’s place amongst the finest actors of the time further underlined with an Oscar nomination.

The junior Smith also received plenty of admiration for his maiden performance at the box office, but Christopher isn’t his most famous character, as Smith Sr.’s emotional display overshadowed any other actor in the movie.
Instead, the cake for that goes to his portrayal of Dre Parker in The Karate Kid. But during the production stage, the movie posed different challenges to not just Smith, but also his parents.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith Were in Constant Disagreement Over Jaden Smith’s Work
Jaden Smith‘s character in The Karate Kid finds himself struggling to adjust to life in China. On the screen, Dre Parker tries to overcome challenges he faced from the new environment and new people, Cheng in particular. But when the cameras turned off, it was Jada and Will Smith‘s different opinions that he found himself stuck between.

The 2010 Karate hit demanded a lot of action sequences from the young actor, who was 11 at the time of filming. Naturally, this worried his mother. She recalled the situation and her encounter with Smith during an episode of Red Table Talk in 2018:
“I remember being on set with Will and it was such a struggle between he and I in regards to Jaden. And I understand why men take their sons away for like whatever kind of warrior training, because it is completely, utterly, unfair and unnatural for a woman to have to sit and watch anything like that for her son. Will and I were in constant conflict, to the point that we were warring over Jaden.”
To be fair, the Men in Black star, who recently played the role of Richard Williams – the father and coach of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, acted like most fathers in real life. They clearly show more resilience when it comes to seeing their kids take an extra leap to achieve the desired result. That’s what Smith did during the filming of The Karate Kid.
How Jada Pinkett Smith Reacted After Willow Smith Revealed She Walked in on Her Parents
In the case of action sequences and physically challenging tasks, fathers show more resilience, but when it comes to more intimate stuff, especially involving s*x, most men like to just shut the topic in front of their kids. The same dynamics are apparently shared between Smith and his partner.

During another episode of Red Table Talk, Willow Smith shared that she walked in on Jada and Will Smith during an intimate moment, stating: “Well, you know, me walking in on you and Dad.”
While the 51-year-old remained pretty unapologetic about the incident, opting to see the moment as a learning one for her daughter, the Hancock star remained ignorant about the details.
And to this day, we are yet to get any straight response from the 54-year-old regarding the awkward situation. Which is again, very understandable!
