The actor recalled that there was one fan on set who was offended by the scene between James and Smith. He also told Smith that he disapproved of the kiss.
“We were shooting the movie in New York a year ago, and nobody knows what the movie is at that point so, there are like 250 New Yorkers standing out there as we’re doing the scene. So this black guy walks up, and he’s watching and sees Kevin lean in for this kiss and he screams out, ‘Brother, NO! Hell no, Will! Un-uh, man! Don’t be doing that Will! What the HELL are you doing, brother?!’ So you know we had to call security to calm him down and explain that it was a movie and he was a little more okay with it.”
Hitch was a 2005 romantic comedy film that starred Will Smith in the title role, along with Eva Mendes, Kevin James, and Amber Valletta. The film was a box office hit and grossed $371.6 million worldwide.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he shared,
“It was very immature on my part. I was thinking, ‘How are my friends in Philly going to think about this?’ I wasn’t emotionally stable enough to artistically commit to that aspect of the film… This was a valuable lesson for me. Either you do it, or you don’t.”
The film featured Stockard Channing, Will Smith, Donald Sutherland, Ian McKellen, etc. in prominent roles.
