The strongest person is the one who knows how to control fear!
Baboons or dog monkeys are animals belonging to the order Primates, which have evolved into 5 different species, stretching from the African savanna to the Middle East. They are one of the largest monkeys in the world, males can weigh up to 37 kg and be 100 cm tall not including the tail. Baboons vary in size and weight depending on the species.
This primate species is classified as endangered because its number in the wild is decreasing sharply. The reason they are called baboons is because they have a dog-like snout, a heavy body, strong jaw muscles with sharp fangs, and eyes close together. This animal has thick fur except for its face and hairless buttocks, allowing it to sit comfortably. Male monkeys also have a large white mane. This animal exhibits sexual dimorphism through body size, color and canine development.
Baboons are aggressive and highly social animals with clear hierarchy. They live on the ground, in herds, and some sleep in trees at night. Each baboon troop usually has more than 50 members, and depending on the time of year, the number of members can increase up to 250. Baboons have unusually active and hunting times throughout the day and night.
According to research by scientists, baboons are omnivores, their food is mainly fruits, seeds, insects and larvae. Depending on the living habits and characteristics of each species, their food is also somewhat different.
Like many other animals, baboons’ enemies are high-level predators such as the Nile crocodile, big cats including lions, jaguars, hyenas and wild dogs. The difference is that wild animals rarely come to baboons, because of the aggressive and stubborn nature of this animal. Only in the case of running out of food and being too hungry, or if a young monkey strays from the herd, is this an opportunity for predators.
Marcel Kühn, a wildlife enthusiast, was lucky enough to witness firsthand the bravery of baboons when faced with a pack of wild dogs – the most successful predator in Africa.
Early that morning, Mr. Marcel’s group drove down to area H1-3 towards Skukuza with an exuberant mood, filled with joy when discovering a new land. While preparing to approach the Tshokwane picnic spot, the group of tourists accidentally encountered a pack of wild dogs gathering to hunt.
Wild dogs are the most successful predators in Africa. If animals like lions and hyenas have a hunting success rate of more than 20%, they are called expert hunters, then with a rate of up to 80%, perhaps wild dogs should be called elite hunters. teacher of expert hunters.
So interested in the rare animals, the group of tourists decided to follow them. After about 30 minutes of traveling, the wild dogs suddenly encountered a large group of baboons. Most of the members of the monkey group ran away when they encountered a herd of terrifying wild animals. However, one member of the monkey group did not do so but stood still, indifferently as if nothing had happened, surprising all the witnesses.
True to the qualities of a good man, the monkey is not afraid when faced with a formidable enemy, and does not take a step back from the enemy’s threat.
Everyone held their breath watching the battle. After a few minutes, the intense battle had results. Hitting an opponent too hard, the wild dogs gave up and retreated into the bushes.
