This is famous as the kingdom of tigers and king cobras.

Western Ghats (India), is a vast land area, surrounding the mountain range running along the southwest coast of India.

This is the most mysterious land in the world . This land is 16,000 square kilometers wide and is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. This is an extremely biologically diverse land. There are countless species still undiscovered here.

The Western Ghats is famous as the kingdom of king cobras. King cobras appear quite commonly in Southeast Asia, however, in these countries, king cobras are gradually depleted due to hunting and habitat narrowing.

Currently, the Western Ghats is considered the place with the largest number of king cobras in the world. Many king cobra sanctuaries have been planned in the Western Ghats to conserve this snake.

The conservation of king cobras in the Western Ghats is very convenient, because the people of the Western Ghats respect king cobras very much, consider them as gods, and never kill this snake.

The living environment is suitable and strictly protected, so the king tiger in the Western Ghats has very good growing conditions, reaching its maximum size. They live up to 30 years and they never stop growing. That is why you can meet giant king snakes in the Western Ghats.

Scientists studying king cobras from around the world have come to this land and recorded that king cobras here can reach a size of up to 7m and weigh nearly 20kg.

The Western Ghats are the wettest place on the planet. 40% of India’s water is supplied by rivers and streams originating from the Western Ghats.

The humid environment is suitable for many reptiles, including venomous ones, with the king cobra dominating the species. Therefore, the Western Ghats are also considered the land of death.

For many years now, residents have expanded their habitat into the core Western Ghats region. Many villages have sprung up inside the Western Ghats.

But the special thing is that the people and the king cobra have accepted to live together. Residents build houses, clear forests for farming, and grow food, attracting rats to find symbiosis. Rat-hunting snakes also come to villages to hunt rats.

King cobras are cannibals and especially like snakes to hunt mice, so they also go to villages to hunt. Each year, the king cobra changes its skin 4-5 times.

After molting, they often find a warm place to hide. Human houses are the ideal environment for them to reside, waiting for their new, stronger skin.

Therefore, it is a daily occurrence for residents to discover king cobras in the kitchen , in the bedroom, or on the roof.

People and king snakes can live together peacefully, accepting them to stay while they change their skin. Humans don’t attack them, so they have no reason to attack back.

Families who are afraid of king tigers and do not want them in their home can call conservation area staff to catch them and release them into the forest.

In the Western Ghats there are thousands of workers working to rescue king cobras, as well as other species. Particularly, the work of rescuing king cobras when they stray into people’s houses is too difficult and dangerous.

The venom of the king cobra is extremely terrible . One bite of a king cobra will kill an elephant weighing several tons. The amount of venom in the king cobra’s body is enough to kill several dozen people.

However, there are very few recorded cases of deadly tiger bites in the Western Ghats. King cobras only attack and inject venom into humans, when humans attack and kill them.

Most of its bites are non-venomous, or it only injects a very small amount of venom through its fangs, to threaten humans. When cornered, it releases a large amount of venom. This snake has the ability to control the amount of venom while attacking.

Scientists from the West have done many studies on king tigers in the Western Ghats, even attaching tracking devices to giant king tigers, however, king snakes are still an extremely mysterious species. Human knowledge about king cobras is still almost zero.
