The Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) is one of the largest and strongest eagles in the African sky originating from the sub-Saharan region.

They can be found throughout most of sub-Saharan Africa, wherever there are abundant food sources and favorable habitats such as open forests, forest edges, savannas…

Martial has a fairly large body size with a length of 78 – 96 cm, an average weight of 3 – 6.2 kg and a wingspan of 190 – 260 cm.

The tail of this eagle species is up to 32 cm long and its legs are up to 13 cm long. Their lower legs are covered with feathers, not bare skin like other birds.

The strongest eagle in Africa "descends" to hunt extremely satisfyingly

They are one of the strongest raptors in the world, if in healthy condition they have no natural enemies.

Their prey is quite diverse, from birds, chickens, geese… to reptiles such as monitor lizards and snakes, including venomous snakes such as cobras, vipers, mambas and African rock pythons. .

Even wild boars do not make Martial the eagle tremble. They can actively attack and use their large, sharp claws to squeeze and hold the animal’s head down, causing the animal to die in an instant.

As a high-level predator, the Martial eagle not only hunts prey but also bullies and steals the carcasses of other wild animals.

Mr. Tony Ferri, a wildlife enthusiast, accidentally witnessed the hunting performance of the eagle Martial and according to his description, he did not know whether to be happy or sad.

That beautiful morning in Kgalagadi, tourists were “relaxing” watching a herd of antelopes playing together in the grassland.

In the herd, there is a small newborn antelope trying to learn its first steps, making everyone extremely excited. Despite receiving a lot of help, the little animal still cannot walk proficiently.

After about 30 minutes of struggling, the group members began to lose patience. And then, to everyone’s surprise, the antelope herd made an extremely confusing decision.

It seems they have chosen to leave behind the weakest link so they can strengthen the organization. Cold but understandable, because to survive in the wild natural world there is no room for sentimentality. Every moment living here is a fight for life.

After each member of the herd left one by one, only the poor newborn antelope was left behind. Suddenly, from afar, a pair of Martial eagles flew in.

With the instincts of a high-level predator, it looks extremely carefully at its surroundings before starting to approach its prey.

While his teammate was still being cautious, the remaining eagle quickly ended the hunt.
