A hero dog saved the life of an entire family from a fire by running from bed to bed to wake up family members after the smoke alarm went off.
Leroy Butler and other family members were asleep when their home caught fire.
Leroy Butler woke up around 2 a.m. on Sept. 17 when he heard a fire alarm in the hallway of his home in Bredanton, Florida.
But it turned off for a moment and stopped making sounds that made the butlers believe there was nothing to worry about. “The bell just beeped and then the fire broke out,” Leroy said.At the same time, Zippy, the Jack Russel breed dog of the Butler family, felt something unusual and ran around the house to wake everyone up.
“It runs everywhere, from bed to bed and from front to back,” he said. Butler said.Furniture caught fire and the ceiling was engulfed in flames, but the dog resolutely ran to Butler’s father and children to wake them up.
Zippy lost his life when he was unable to escape the fire.
The Bradenton Fire Department said the fire spread from the attic space near the air conditioning unit. But no one knows how it flared up.
Butler tried to get back to the house that burned because of Zippy, but the fire was too large and firefighters prevented him from going inside. The floor in the living room caught fire so the little dog had no way to get out.
Leroy had to wait for the fire to be extinguished but by the time firefighters found Zippy, he had died of asphyxiation.
